CHARACTER SUMMARY
Despite this, Izanami is an extremely caring individual. She has a strong moral compass, believing in justice and protecting the innocent above all else. Izanami believes strong Quirks are great gifts and their owners are meant for a higher calling. As a result she resents those that misuse their Quirks for malevolent purposes, seeing them as stains on society abusing their good fortunes for easy exploits. The woman is very motherly and affectionate to those younger than herself when she wants to be, often forgetting personal space in the process. One known to frequently hug, Izanami often displays a more flirtatious side with men she is interested in or in an attempt to coerce others into giving her things she desires... such as free food or compliments on her figure..
A notable glutton, and a self proclaimed carnivore, Izanami has a voracious appetite that stems from her Quirk. She holds a distinct love for chocolate, red meat, and barbecue. Despite this Izanami is a mediocre cook herself, and would much rather go out dining or be invited to a dinner party than make her own meals. In a similar vein, her public and private personas display a stark contrast cultivated to make her appear diligent and tireless as a public servant. Publicly, Izanami is a workaholic and a perpetual whirlwind of efficiency. In private, the reality is Izanami is actually rather lazy. A big fan of naps, falling asleep watching television, and heated blankets. Izanami detests chores, and will put off housework as long as humanly possible. Though in the end even she can admit it feels better knowing all the chores are taken care of and she can finally rest with clear conscious.
Izanami Ryūzaki was born in Minato Ward, Tokyo at Tokyo General Hospital to her parents, Yamata and Kushina Ryūzaki. At the time her parents were still both active Pro-Heroes, operating under the hero names King Dragon and Snake Princess respectively. Her mother was forced into early retirement by her pregnancy, though her father remained one of Tokyo's most prominent heroes. Izanami was raised chiefly by her mother in her youth, seeing little of her father between his busy schedule of crime fighting, media appearances, and the management of his brand. The eldest of what would become three siblings, Izanami was joined a few short years later by her younger brothers Yashima and Ōnamuchi. Only after having sons did their father Yamata begin to take more than a passing interest in his children.
Izanami grew up without want, being raised in the luxury provided for by her parents' celebrity status as Pro-Heroes. The Ryūzaki children were doted on by nannies and servants, dressed in finely tailored clothing, and played the latest toys and video games. In spite of this, Yamata went to great lengths to ensure his progeny did not grow up to become 'self absorbed, empty headed failures', in his own words. Yamata was a stern father. Austere to a fault, with a black and white view on justice and morality. Only his unwavering dedication to the rule of law kept King Dragon from being judge, jury, and executioner to his criminals. The Ryūzaki patriarch had his children enrolled in expensive private schooling, tutored by well paid specialists, and trained by their own martial arts instructor from a young age. Driven by his own visions of legacy, heritage, and duty, Yamata sought to mold his children into the heroes of tomorrow. He ultimately succeeded.
When she came of age, Izanami graduated from private schooling, and took the next step; enrolling in a Hero School program. Naturally Yamata had his daughter enrolled in his own alma mater, the world famous and much esteemed U.A. High Schoo, on recommendation of course. Initially taunted as a 'daddy's girl' who only made the cut based on her father's reputation, Izanami quickly proved her peers horribly wrong. With her brutish strength, sharp intellect, and burning rage, the young dragoness soared to the top of her class rankings to the dismay of her peers and the quiet pride of her father. Izanami's younger brothers proved to lack her unbridled drive, causing Yamata to divert more of his time and 'affection' to his eldest child. He soon began grooming Izanami to be his personal successor and taking her under his wing as his Sidekick following her victory in the annual Sports Festival.
During her internship with her father, Izanami was spared no such thing as luxury. Treated as his protégé first and Yamata's sidekick second, she endured battles against Villains well above what should have been expected of her. This was in addition to her heavy burden of school work, a brutal training regiment under Yamata's watchful guidance, and being frequently pitted against her siblings in familial brawls. Yamata’s tutelage proved exceedingly harsh, but ultimately fruitful. Izanami went on to place very highly in the Provisional Hero License Exams, passing even as a ‘lowly’ first year student.Since then Izanami continued to operate as her father’s premiere Sidekick until her ultimate graduation several years later. Now a fully licensed Hero, Izanami, now sporting the hero name Caldera, an obvious reference to volcanic nature of her Quirk, formally took up residence as a full fledged member of Team Ryūzaki. Operating out of Ryūzaki Tower, Yamata’s Hero Office claimed dominion over the greater Tokyo Metropolis, sharing this territory with numerous other Hero Offices and independent Heroes needed to patrol Japan's thriving capital.
Izanami spent the next several years serving dutifully underneath Yamata. She pursued further education in her free time, finishing a bachelor's degree in Business Administration through the University of Tokyo’s online program. In the meantime, Izanami was acting as King Dragon’s second-in-command, and being given the greater share of the day to day operation of Ryūzaki Tower as time passed on. She was well aware her father had spent the last decade and a half grooming her to be his successor, though it was still a surprise to her the day Yamata finally announced it was time to hang up his cape and go into formal retirement. In this time Izanami's extreme drive and dedication earned her a significant fame and fortune as a Pro-Hero. She even achieved one of her crowning achievements as a Pro-Hero, namely landing the coveted cover shoot for Pro-Heroes Illustrated: Swimsuit Edition. Sadly though, this goal was also overshadowed by being crowned rank one on the Hero Billboard Chart's list of Heroes who look like Villains.
Confident in his daughter’s abilities, and having taught her everything he knows, Yamata eventually stepped down and relinquished leadership of Team Ryūzaki to Izanami. Though officially King Dragon is fully retired in order to preserve his health and spend time with his loving wife, informally the Ryūzaki patriarch is a workhorse that couldn’t stand retirement once he got a taste of it. Yamata continues to assist his daughter and sons in a strictly administrative capacity, and has taken up a secondary career as a government liaison on behalf of Pro-Heroes. His ties to both Pro-Heroes active and retired, as well as his no nonsense approach to business and his fond dislike of career politicians have made him ideal for the position.
In the meanwhile things remained business as usual for Ryūzaki Tower. Izanami’s transition into leader was a seamless one, and she quickly took in her younger brothers as her personal Sidekicks as she continued to pass on the torch. However, the young dragoness had dreams beyond just carrying out her father’s legacy. Izanami longed to create a legacy of her own, beyond flashy news headlines and an impressively long list of cases closed. For Izanami, she wished to train the next great generation of heroes, and to do so in a manner less draconian than her own father’s training with her. While she respected Yamata immensely, and valued his thoughts on strength, duty, and valor, she knew a guiding hand could often achieve the same results as a forceful shove.
To achieve this goal, Izanami has applied to U.A. High as a teacher, and with her father’s begrudging blessings accepted a position to teach. She continues her own career in Heroism and the overall leadership of Team Ryūzaki, though her students are her first and foremost priority. She leaves much of the administration of 'her' Hero Agency to that of her brothers, who now operate Team Ryūzaki in all-but-name. Yashima does not mind much, having largely stepped up to the plate upon realizing how much faith his older sister has placed in him. Neither of Izanami's siblings has any desire to teach, and happily take to heroism as a means to escape from under her shadow in the same way she looks to teaching to escape from under their father's.
Though initially the Modern Literature Teacher, which is what her teaching certifications were taken in, Izanami has since moved on to teaching Foundational Hero Studies following the retirement of beloved friend and mentor, the Jet Engine Hero: Afterburner. She has been at the position over five years now, long enough she's seen her first classes of students graduate, go onto become Sidekicks, and even begin branching out and forming their own proper Hero Agencies. Teaching has slightly mellowed out her once fiery temperament, though Izanami's students are quick to see some fires never truly burn out when they misbehave or break curfew. The Dragon Queen reigns over High U.A. High School, and her wings cast a long shadow over the city of Musutafa.
Quirk AND SKILLS
QUIRK TYPE: Dual Type: Mutation / Transformation
QUIRK DESCRIPTION: Izanami, like her father before her, is able to transform into an immense fire breathing dragon like those of mythology. In her dragon form she is massive, larger and heavier than a city bus with a wingspan comparable to a full sized jumbo jet. Her dragon form has a rather rough and almost volcanic appearance, with jagged black scales and uneven armored, bony plates jutting from its body. Some is natural growths, others are ill healed wounds from hard battles fought and won over a decade long career as a Pro-Hero. Her dragon form is quadrupedal, with four stout legs ending in clawed toes with large rending talons.
However, unlike her father before her, Izanami has a Mutation side to her Quirk, inherited from her mother. Izanami does not have a perfectly 'normal' human form. She began changing at five years old, as her body began to inherit and display a number of monstrous and draconic features of its own. Most immediately noticeable, Izanami has a huge mantle of bony, armored spikes growing out from her upper back. These give her a profile several feet taller and nearly twice as broad as she is, sadly requiring her to turn sideways to enter most conventional doorways and an inability to sit comfortably on certain seating.
In addition, Izanami has four large red horns that sprout from her head, in two sets of two. A larger pair below, and a smaller pair above. Her skin is an ashen grey color, chiefly caused by Argyria of her skin. She has crimson talons instead of fingernails, and dewclaws growing like stiletto heels from her feet. Last, though hardly least of the woman's bizarre mutations are two enormous tail-like tendrils that grow from her lower back. Long as Izanami is tall, and thicker around than her waist, the woman's twin tails are covered in a hard, chitinous carapace. Their length is covered in barbs and spines of piercing bone, with magma like muscle throbbing beneath the exposed seams in her chitin.
In her Dragon form, Izanami's body is entirely covered in its black, armor like, craggy scales. The exception is along his underbelly and neck, where there is red and orange discoloration. Her tail is very long, incredibly powerful, thick with bands of muscles and tipped in a spiny club of razor sharp bone. Her skull is massive, and very heavy, and her lower jaw possesses a heavy under bite. Within her mouth are rows of large white fangs, inwardly curved like daggers arranged in jagged uneven rows. Two large black horns jut from Izanami's skull, and several smaller horns from her jawline extend backwards in a ridge along the underside of her cheeks.
When transformed, Izanami's Hero Costume becomes a series of armored plates attached at various points along her shoulders, arms, and back. She also wears a reinforced plate on her jaw to help protect her head from injuries. Izamami's wings erupt from her back between the spine and shoulder blades. They are enormous in size, beating the ground with gale force winds sufficient to lift her titanic bulk into the skies. The leathery membranes that line her wings are a reddish discoloration, whereas the bones and spines of the wings themselves are ebony black as the rest of her. They are tipped in spiked barbs, boast jagged claws, and the sound they make as they beat strikes fear into Villains who hear it.
QUIRK LIMITATIONS: Dragon Queen gives Izanami almost unparalleled physical strength and resilience, allowing her superhuman feats of might and durability befitting of a former Top Ten Pro-Hero. She is able to easily bulldoze her way through most walls and structures, and can topple large buildings with sheer strength alone. Her claws and teeth are razor sharp, capable of rending through even thick steel plates with minimal resistance. The bite force exerted by Izanami's jaws is in excess of that of the ancient Megalodon, and her wings allow for flight speeds similar to that of Hatzegopteryx though her great mass makes gliding for more than brief periods unsustainable.
Despite her titanic strength, Izanami is still bound by aerodynamics, and is unable to fly when carrying a load weighing in excess of roughly twelve percent of her total mass. She is however capable of lifting several times her own body mass and carrying weight in excess of her mass for brief periods of time when on solid ground. Her dragon form is also much faster than her normal self, chiefly due to its longer limbs and greater overall size. Over land Izanami is able to run at speeds of 14mph (23kph) and sprinting for double that for short durations. Alternatively she is capable of walking on his hind limbs, though she lacks the balance to move faster than a lumbering gait when walking upright.
Dragon Queen's most iconic power is the ability to breath powerful jets of molten flame. Izanami's flames have an incredible effective range, though their potency diminishes the further they travel before reaching the target. At their epicenter her flames burn hot enough to easily melt rock into molten sludge and burn a white hot. Even the edge of her fire is sufficient to warp metal as it heats it red hot. Though she has great reserves of inner propellant, Izanami's ability to breath fire is not infinite. Eventually she will exhaust her Quirk's supply and be left with only smoke to exhale until she can recuperate. Lastly, Izanami's Dragon form is nearly impervious to fire and high temperatures, as its scales provide both excellent insulation from heat, as well as being an incredibly poor conductor of heat as a whole.
QUIRK DRAWBACKS: Dragon Queens's largest weakness is its own great size. While Izanami is transformed she is larger even than a city bus, and thus has extreme difficulty fitting into most interior spaces. Transforming in enclosed spaces such as indoors or underground will cause her to destroy her immediate surroundings as she changes in size. Unless the load bearing capability of the structure she is within exceeds the forces exerted on it as she transforms. This includes places such as reinforced structures, subways, and most industrial facilities. If she is unable to fit within the place she attempts to transform inside of, the compression is painful and forces her to revert back into her human form.
Dragon Queen is a destructive Quirk by nature, as both its physical size, strength, weight, and fire breath have great capacity to inflict collateral damage. Izanami must be weary about infrastructure damage such as broken gas lines, fuel tanks, and spilled combustibles when using her fire breath. Additionally, the sheer weight of her Dragon form is sufficient to crack weak pavement, leave deep footprints in soft earth, and will collapse structures not weighted to withstand her standing upon them. This largely keeps Izanami from landing on rooftops not rated for large police and medical helicopters without transforming back into her human form first.
While Dragon Queen grants a massive increase to strength and durability, it does nothing to bolster Izanami's overall agility, or heighten her reflexes. Her senses remain as keen as they were prior to her transformation, which when combined with the sheer increase in size and mass makes her significantly more cumbersome when moving about. Dragon Queen has large blind spots at her rear and underbelly, and struggles against nimble opponents able to exploit this. Furthermore, Dragon Queen places great metabolic strain on Izanami's body, and burns calories at a hyper accelerated rate. As a result Izanami consumes significantly more food than the average adult of her height and build, and upon exiting her Dragon form after a prolonged period of time she is often left famished and ravenous.
Lastly is Dragon Queen's flame affinity, which while Izanami is able to breath streams of fire from her mouth, she also lacks any form of pyrokinesis to control said flames. The fire she breaths is mundane in its properties, and is no more or less susceptible to manipulation by various fire or combustion based Quirks. Her body's resistance to heat is not without its limits, and while she resilient to flames and even magma, Izanami is still vulnerable to intense sources of prolonged heat such as lasers, superheated gases, high voltage electrical currents, and plasma. As a reptilian in her dragon form she is also more susceptible to extreme cold, lacking body hair or cold weather insulation. Ice, snow, frost, and other sources of extreme cold are all increasingly debilitating. Similarly, the effectiveness of her fire breath is greatly diminished in driving rain, heavy blizzards, and rendered nearly useless underwater.
